God’s Heart: The Family
1 John 3:2 (NKJV)
“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”
1 John 3:2 (NKJV)
Family is near and dear to God’s heart. For this reason, God created a man and a woman; united a man and a woman and united them as one “flesh” and blessed them with the great encouragement to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:27-28; Genesis 2:23-24).
God constantly revisits the family and instructs His people to train up children in the way of holiness and truth. Deuteronomy 11:19 (NKJV) says, “You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” This implies that God is very concerned about the future generation. They must be aware of His laws so as not to cause harm to their family as they grow. Proverbs 22:6 also underscores the message in the Psalmist’s declaration that children are a heritage from the Lord, that the fruit of the womb is a reward – Psalm 127:3.
For this reason and more, we do not hesitate to affirm that there is a strong and inescapable biblical basis for focusing on the family. Family is at the center of God’s plan for the happiness and progress of His children.
